Janis Hughes was sunk in front of her large-screen television, watching Netflix, trying to zone out and forget about her day. And the day before. And the day before that. Not easy to do when you know you are dying.

Hughes was a decade into breast cancer that kept coming back, worse each time, like a bad relationship. A lumpectomy in 2011, a recurrence in 2018, metastasis, tumours in her lungs and bones, and finally the word that shut the door on everything she had known before: terminal.
