First Session is an innovative platform built to help therapists grow their practices and attract new clients. Positioned somewhere between a directory and a group practice, First Session functions more like a dating site for therapy — helping people find a practitioner who’s a great fit through connection-first design and personalized video intros.

Founded in Toronto in 2019 by Rob Pintwala, First Session has already connected more than 10,000 Canadians to therapists, and currently partners with over 130 private practice clinicians across the country. They are especially committed to supporting therapists working with psychedelic modalities.

What Makes First Session Different?

When you join First Session, their team will work with you to produce a short, high-quality video for your practice profile — which you can also use on your own website. This allows clients to get a feel for who you are before booking, making therapy feel more personal from the start.

Unlike many directories or platforms, First Session is built around fit and relationship, not just credentials or keywords.

How It Works

  • First Session handles nationwide marketing to bring clients to the platform.
  • When a client finds your profile, they can book directly with you.
  • You set your own session rates.
  • There's no ongoing subscription fee.

Instead, First Session uses a pay-per-client model:

  • 25% of session fees are shared for a client’s first 6 sessions
  • 10% is shared for sessions beyond that
