These masterclasses are designed to help prescribers move from curiosity to clinical clarity, with a grounded understanding of safety, decision-making, and real-world prescribing pathways in Canada.

- Recognize contraindications and key medication considerations relevant to psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
- Interpret evidence at a practical level (what it suggests, what it does not, and what matters for safety).
- Understand Canadian access and prescribing pathways, including SAP workflows at a high level.
- Collaborate effectively with care teams, including therapists and supervisors, with clear documentation habits.
Designed primarily for prescribers (MD, NP) who want a high-quality, clinically relevant training that focuses on safety, prescribing decision-making, and Canadian pathways.
Other clinicians and allied professionals may enroll for education. Prescriber designation and directory listing are limited to regulated medical prescribers in good standing with an appropriate professional body.

Psilocybin Prescriber Training

What you will cover
Both trainings share the same six-unit structure. Clinical examples and case framing differ depending on whether you are registering for psilocybin or MDMA.
1. TheraPsil mission, advocacy, assessment and referral
- TheraPsil roles in patient-rights advocacy, assessment, and referral.
- Canadian context, including SAP pathways, Section 56 considerations, and research pathways.
- Inclusion criteria, intake and follow-up protocol, and assessment tools.
- Professional association and college considerations.
- Prescriber role inside care teams.
2. Neuropharmacology, neurobiology, dosing
- Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
- Neurobiology concepts relevant to clinical prescribing and safety.
- Dosing protocols and session arc fundamentals.
3. Indications and studies
- Review of higher-quality studies across key indications.
- How to interpret design, limitations, outcomes, and adverse events.
- Clinical rationale and ethical considerations for prescriber decision-making.
4. Drug interactions, contraindications, side effects, adverse events
- Medication interaction framing and management.
- Contraindications, side effects, adverse events, and risk reduction.
- Relevant labs, deprescribing considerations, and harm reduction in polypharmacy contexts.
5. Patient populations and special medical considerations
- Case-based learning for prescriber decision-making.
- Risk mitigation and harm reduction across patient populations.
- Special considerations in complex medical conditions (high level).
6. Filling out the SAP
- Templates and examples.
- Patient history and care team collaboration.
- Formularies, manufacturers, and workflow basics.
- Billing overview.
Entrance and completion
Certificates reflect completion of the didactic instruction.
Designed primarily for prescribers (MD, NP) seeking education in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and prescribing pathways.
The training may also be taken for educational purposes by other interested individuals. Prescriber designation and inclusion on TheraPsil's Prescriber Directory are limited to regulated medical prescribers with current good standing as a professional member of an association with a Code of Ethics and a disciplinary body.
