Advanced clinical training for New Mexico practitioners
New Mexico's regulated medical psilocybin program sets distinct education and practicum requirements for practitioners and facilitators. This training is organized into role-specific modules so each track completes exactly what's required for its certification.
What this program prepares you for
Trainees graduate with the clinical knowledge, practical skills, and (for practitioners and facilitators) supervised experience to safely deliver or support psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy within New Mexico's regulated framework.
- Conduct comprehensive screening, intake assessment, and readiness evaluation for psychedelic therapy
- Identify psychiatric and medical contraindications and apply risk-mitigation protocols
- Facilitate preparation, dosing, and integration sessions across individual and group formats
- Apply neuropharmacology knowledge: drug interactions, de-prescribing, and metabolism
- Support clients through challenging psychedelic experiences using somatic and grounding techniques
- Manage crisis intervention and medical escalation pathways
- Work effectively with SUD, PTSD, EOL, and TRD populations
- Practice within NM DOH regulatory frameworks and documentation requirements
- Understand legal aspects of prescribing and facilitation under New Mexico law
- Maintain informed consent, appropriate boundaries, and scope-of-practice clarity
- Practice trauma-informed, culturally responsive care including engagement with Indigenous and traditional healing frameworks
- Navigate veteran populations, PTSD, moral injury, and palliative care presentations
- Distinguish clearly between clinical, pastoral, and cultural care roles

The program serves multiple professional tracks, each mapped to either the Facilitator or Practitioner certification role. All applicants must hold an active credential, ordination, or community recognition appropriate to their track and be in good standing.

Spiritual care participation is limited to spiritual counseling, pastoral care, and existential support; it does not authorize medical or psychotherapeutic practice. End-of-life professionals may serve as facilitators or co-facilitators within the NM EOL care team structure.

- Recognized by community, Nation, Pueblo, Tribe, or lineage
- Participation guided by self-determination & sovereignty
- No requirement to align with Western clinical frameworks

What's covered
The program is organized into role-specific modules rather than one fixed sequence, since each certification role is subject to a different combination of required modules. Every module ends with a competency evaluation.

The New Mexico Medical Psilocybin Act and department authority, the medical and therapeutic model used in-state, social and cultural context including traditional Indigenous use, and the spiritual/existential dimensions of psilocybin therapy. Ends with a competency evaluation.
The core clinical curriculum, delivered across the following units, followed by a hands-on simulated patient experience and a final competency evaluation. A substantial portion is delivered in-person.
Peer facilitation ethics, working as part of a care team, presence with a patient, and foundational psychotherapy concepts. Ends with a competency evaluation.
Additional training in psilocybin-specific therapeutic modalities and non-ordinary states of consciousness, plus care-team coordination for the practitioner role. Ends with a competency evaluation.
Delivered in-person at Sol Tryp's Las Cruces facility: administration day sessions and preparation and integration sessions across a mix of individual and group formats, plus a case-presentation evaluation. Practitioners additionally supervise facilitators as part of their practicum.
Role-specific modules, not a single fixed sequence
Because facilitators and practitioners are each subject to a different combination of required modules, trainees complete only the modules required for their certification track.
Foundations & Role-Specific Didactics (Modules A–E)
All trainees complete NM Foundations. Facilitators and practitioners then complete the Psilocybin Therapy Module (including the simulated patient experience), plus a Facilitator- or Practitioner-specific module depending on role.
Supervised Practicum (Practitioners & Facilitators)
Delivered at Sol Tryp's Las Cruces facility: administration day sessions, preparation and integration sessions, and (for practitioners) additional time supervising facilitators.
Competency Evaluations & Certification
Every module ends with an evaluation. Practitioners and facilitators also complete a practicum case-presentation evaluation before receiving their track-specific Certificate in Psilocybin-Assisted Psychotherapy.

Why does the training vary by role?
New Mexico's regulated medical psilocybin program sets distinct education and practicum requirements for practitioners and facilitators. Because each role is held to a different combination of required modules, this program is organized around a shared foundations module, role-specific modules, and a role-specific practicum rather than one fixed curriculum for everyone.
Does completing this training allow me to prescribe or certify patients for psilocybin in New Mexico?
Prescribing and certifying authority depend on your existing scope of practice and the NM DOH regulatory framework. This training provides the module-based education required by the Department of Health for your track and supports practitioners pursuing authorized pathways. It does not itself grant prescribing or certifying authority.
Where will the practicum be held, and who needs to complete it?
The supervised practicum applies to both tracks and is planned for Sol Tryp's Las Cruces facility, which features dedicated group spaces and individual treatment rooms suited for administration day sessions and preparation/integration work.
I have prior psychedelic training from another program. Is there a reciprocity pathway?
TheraPsil supports reciprocity pathways for practitioners with prior psychedelic-related education from other jurisdictions. You would submit documentation including certificates, syllabi, and evidence of supervised practice for review. The NM Foundations training is still required for all applicants. Is the practicum included in the tuition?Details TBD
No. The $4,450 tuition covers the didactic modules delivered by TheraPsil. The supervised practicum (required for practitioners and facilitators) takes place separately, in New Mexico, through Sol Tryp, and is arranged directly with them once you've completed the required didactic hours. Pricing and scheduling for the practicum will be confirmed and shared here as soon as it's finalized.
Is this the same as TheraPsil's standard Fundamentals program?
It's built on the same clinical foundations as TheraPsil's Fundamentals pathway, re-mapped onto New Mexico's module structure, including a dedicated NM Foundations module, NM DOH documentation standards, veteran populations, and New Mexico's cultural and Indigenous healing context, plus standalone units on SUD, TRD, and group psychedelic therapy methods.
